The US military has launched a significant military operation against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria. Named 'Operation Hawkeye Strike,' the mission is in homage to the state of Iowa, known as the Hawkeye State. This offensive is in response to the ISIS attack in Palmyra on December 13, which resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and an interpreter.

According to American officials, this large-scale assault targeted over 70 ISIS sites, including weapon caches, infrastructures, and combat locations. More than 100 precision munitions were deployed in the attack.
