US President Donald Trump has made a significant stride against Deepfake and Revenge Porn by enacting a law. On Monday afternoon, President Trump signed the TAKE IT DOWN Act into legislation.
This act demands that if any individual or publication posts an unauthorised genuine or AI-created explicit image online, technology companies must remove such content within 48 hours.
The First Lady expressed the importance of the 'Take It Down' Act, emphasizing its necessity for the well-being of our children, families, and the future of America.
Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, was also present
President Trump's signing of this bill took place in a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump. Under this legislation, posting so-called Revenge Porn and unlawful Deepfake content is a criminal offense, with violators facing potential jail time, fines, or both.
Backed by Both Parties
This bill has garnered bipartisan support in Congress and was passed by the House of Representatives in April. It was drafted by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz, with assistance from Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Understanding Deepfake
Deepfake technology utilizes AI to create edited videos or photos, often altering faces. In many instances, Deepfake is used to place one person's image over explicit ones, leading to misuse.
Recently, a Hindi film, 'Loveyapa,' was released, highlighting the issue of Deepfake Porn and its associated dangers.
