UP News:
Rakesh Rathore, the Congress MP from Sitapur, has been arrested by police due to allegations of rape. Following the rejection of his anticipatory bail by the High Court, he was holding a press conference at his home when the arrest occurred. The police took him into custody in the midst of the conference.
The High Court's Lucknow bench dismissed Rathore's application for anticipatory bail, ordering him to surrender. The lawyer on behalf of the petitioner argued that the complaint was filed after four years and that Rathore was being falsely implicated.
The complainant's advocate contended that Rathore, a powerful leader, intimidated the woman into delaying the complaint. Rathore's lawyer requested more time to surrender, but the court gave him two weeks to present himself to the sessions court.
Rathore had previously filed for anticipatory bail in Sitapur's session court, which was also rejected, leading to the arrest.
On January 15, a woman filed a rape case against the Congress MP at the Kotwali police station. The complainant alleges that Rathore repeatedly raped her over the last four years, under the pretense of marriage and career advancement promises. She provided call details and recordings to the police as evidence.
