On June 5, 2024, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore arrived at the International Space Station (ISS). Although their mission was supposed to last only 8 days, they ended up staying for 9 months due to technical issues. Throughout this extended mission, Williams remained actively engaged in various tasks.
She played a crucial role in maintaining and cleaning the space station, which, being the size of a football field, constantly requires upkeep. She assisted in replacing outdated equipment and conducted numerous scientific experiments.
Record-Setting 62 Hours Across 9 Spacewalks
According to NASA, Sunita Williams and her team completed 900 hours of research. They conducted over 150 experiments, earning Sunita a new record as the woman who spent the most time in space. She logged 62 hours and 9 minutes in 9 separate spacewalks outside the space station.
Developing New Reactors
Sunita Williams worked on numerous critical research projects aboard the space station. One project aimed to understand how gravity affects fluid systems in space. She also focused on developing new reactors for water recovery and fuel cells.
