Circle Officer Kripa Shankar Kanaujia has been demoted to constable after being caught in a hotel with a female constable. It is noteworthy that Kanaujia initially joined the police force as a constable and climbed the ranks through his talent and effort, but a lapse in character has led to his downfall to his original position. A blatant violation of the Police Conduct Rules has resulted in this disciplinary action.
Kripa Shankar Kanaujia, originally from Deoria district, joined UP police as a constable in 1986. Through departmental exams, he rose to the ranks of Head Constable and then Sub-Inspector. Subsequently, he was promoted to Inspector and stationed with the 26th PAC battalion. Eventually, he was promoted to Circle Officer and posted in Bighapur, Unnao.
While holding the position of CO, Kripa Shankar Kanaujia was caught in a compromising situation with a female constable at a Kanpur hotel in July 2021. Consequently, the administration transferred the CO to the 26th Battalion in Gorakhpur, and an investigation was launched for violation of police regulations.
Upon being found guilty of breaching the Police Conduct Rules, action was taken against CO Kripa Shankar. Essentially, a lapse in morality led to a Deputy SP officer being demoted back to the rank of constable.

Following the investigation, orders to demote Kripa Shankar Kanaujia from CO to constable were issued on June 21, 2024. Since receiving the order, Kripa Shankar has vanished from the 26th Battalion in Gorakhpur, and now, the departmental clerk has filed a report against the elusive constable Kanaujia for absenteeism.
The rules mandate that a police officer should always be courteous, virtuous, and earn public trust through reliability and impartiality. Moreover, an officer must keep his personal life untainted and be truthful and honest in both private and public life to serve as an exemplary citizen to the public.

In fact, Kripa Shankar Kanaujia, then the CO of Unnao, had applied for leave on July 6, 2021, from the SP of Unnao citing familial reasons. However, instead of heading home after getting his leave approved, he checked into a hotel in Kanpur with a female constable. Throughout this period, the CO switched off both his private and government mobile phones.
Anxious about her husband's switched-off phone, his wife inquired and learned he had left for home on leave. Concerned about a potential mishap, she contacted the SP of Unnao for assistance. When the SP put the surveillance team on the job, they discovered the CO's mobile network was last active at a hotel in Kanpur.
The Unnao police reached the hotel where the CO's location was traced. There, they found the CO with a female constable. It's reported that the Unnao police took away video evidence related to the CO. CCTV footage showed the CO and his female companion entering the hotel. Following the scandal, a report tarnishing the department's image was sent to the administration. After reviewing the entire incident, the administration recommended reverting Kripa Shankar Kanaujia to the rank of constable, which led to the ADG Administration issuing the orders for the demotion.
