Tragic End: Farmer in UP Commits Suicide Over Unpaid Tractor Loan

In Modkala village, a farmer named Sonu Rajput, unable to pay a 1 lakh INR tractor installment, tragically took his life. His mental stress was compounded by crop failure due to heavy rains. Police investigation is underway.

In the Chirgaon area of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, a heartbreaking incident unfolded on Sunday morning. A 28-year-old farmer, Sonu Rajput from Modkala village, hanged himself on the roof, overwhelmed by the mental anguish of being unable to pay the tractor installment. This tragic event came to light when a young sister-in-law discovered him while hanging clothes on the roof.

With the help of neighbors and family members, they brought him down and rushed to Jhansi Medical College, where doctors declared him dead. Survived by his wife and seven-year-old son Aryan, the family shared that Sonu bought a Swaraj tractor on finance with high hopes six months ago.

Sonu had paid 2 lakh INR upfront and needed to pay an additional 1 lakh INR in installments over six months. However, heavy rains destroyed his paddy crop, eliminating his ability to afford the payments. This led to severe mental stress and depression. Despite efforts by his brother Monu and uncle Abhinav to console him, economic hardships and crop loss shattered him mentally.

At the time of the incident, his wife and son were away at her parents’ home for Bhai Dooj, his parents were in the fields, and his brother was outside the house. Only the young sister-in-law was at home. Chirgaon Station in-charge Shailendra Singh stated that the deceased's body has been taken for postmortem, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the true reasons behind the suicide.
