In a significant move to curb the rising incidents of stubble burning, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched an innovative scheme. The animal husbandry department will now exchange cow dung fertilizer with farmers for their harvest waste. This initiative ensures that farmers receive high-quality fertilizer from cow shelters. Meanwhile, the agricultural residue will serve as bedding and fodder for livestock. Livestock Minister Dharampal Singh has instructed officials to educate farmers on the benefits of this scheme.
During a review meeting in Lucknow, Minister Dharampal Singh emphasized providing beneficial alternatives over punitive measures for stubble burning. He mentioned warnings issued to chief veterinary officers in districts with pending fodder tenders. The minister also clarified that strict action would be taken against indifferent officials.
According to the government plan, farmers can gather harvest waste from their fields and deliver it to cow shelters, where it will be used as animal bedding and fodder. In return, they will receive top-notch cow dung manure, which will enhance soil fertility and boost crop yields, while also reducing pollution traditionally caused by stubble burning.

The meeting also resolved to use CSR funds to install machinery in cow shelters for the production of 'Go Kashth-Moksh Dandika.' Additionally, directives were issued to activate milk committees and ensure timely payments to farmers. Soon, the department will organize training and exposure visits to other states for farmers, helping them acquaint with modern livestock breeding techniques.
