Once again, the speculations around an extension of service for Uttar Pradesh's acting DGP, Prashant Kumar, are gaining momentum. This buzz is fueled by the invitation for a farewell luncheon for the retiring officials, including Kumar.
Scheduled for May 31, three DGP-rank officers from Uttar Pradesh are set to retire. This includes DG Jail P.V. Ram Shastri, DG Telecom Sanjay M. Tarde, and acting DGP Prashant Kumar. Alongside these, three DIG-rank officers - Kiran Yadav (DIG Women Power Line), Arvind Chaturvedi (DIG Vigilance), and Tej Swarup Singh (DIG Police Headquarters) - are also retiring.

According to tradition, a lunch or dinner is organized by the DGP for the retiring officials. Invitations for this event are sent out by the DGP's staff officer. A luncheon is scheduled for 1:30 PM today at the police headquarters. The list of five officers retiring includes all except acting DGP Prashant Kumar. This omission has sparked rumors about the possibility of a service extension for Kumar by the UP government.

While insiders indicate the DGP facilitates the luncheon or dinner for retiring IPS officers, the invitation is sent by the staff officer. Speculating extension based only on this association might be premature unless official extension orders are communicated.
