Union Minister Smriti Irani is now officially registered as a voter in her parliamentary constituency of Amethi. This upcoming Lok Sabha election marks the first time Smriti Irani will cast her vote for herself. Her housewarming ceremony was conducted recently in the new house she constructed in Amethi district.

Smriti Irani built her house in the village of Medan Mawai in Gauriganj tehsil of Amethi, where she celebrated her housewarming on February 22. Following this, she became a registered voter at polling station number 347 in the village. After form number 6 was completed, she was added to the electorate of Amethi and will soon receive her voter ID card. Before this, Union Minister Smriti Irani was a voter in the North-West district of Mumbai.

Local MPs in Amethi were also voters

It is worth noting that prior to this, two former MPs from Amethi were registered local voters. Ravindra Singh and Sanjay Singh became MPs as local voters. Except for these individuals, all other MPs elected from Amethi were not local residents. However, now for the first time, an outside MP has become a voter of Amethi.

In 2021, Smriti Irani purchased land for her house

After being elected as an MP from Amethi in 2019, Smriti Irani promised the public that she would soon build her own house in the district. Consequently, in 2021, she acquired 11 biswa of land for her home, which is now complete, elevating the spirits of her supporters and the BJP.

Smriti Irani fought her first election in Amethi in 2014

Smriti Irani is ready to contest elections from Amethi for the third time. Previously, she contested elections from this constituency in 2014 but was defeated. However, she emerged victorious against Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the same election, Rahul Gandhi also ran from Wayanad, where he won. But the verdict handed down by the electorate of Amethi in the last Lok Sabha election was considered one of the biggest political reversals, given that the Gandhi family's legacy in Amethi was defeated by a margin of more than 50,000 votes.

In 2004, Rahul Gandhi began his political journey from Amethi and secured a significant victory. However, by 2014, his margin had substantially diminished. Besides Rahul Gandhi, Amethi has previously been represented by Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi as members of parliament.
