The property dispute among the former Mewar royal family of Udaipur has now become public. The situation escalated to the extent that stones were hurled outside the City Palace. BJP MLA Vishwaraj Singh and his supporters were barred from entering the City Palace, leading to chaos. Both parties clashed, resulting in injuries to three individuals. The management of the City Palace is spearheaded by his cousins, Lakshyaraj Singh and uncle Arvind Singh Mewar.
Vishwaraj Singh's Coronation
Earlier this month, following the demise of his father, Mahendra Singh Mewar, Vishwaraj Singh was ceremoniously appointed as the head of the former royal family at Chittorgarh Fort. Known as 'Pagdi Dastur', this tradition was held at the 'Fateh Prakash Palace', where a blood tilak was applied, accompanied by a 21-gun salute.
Denied Entry to City Palace
After being declared heir at Chittorgarh, Vishwaraj Singh intended to visit the 'Dhooni Sthal' at the City Palace in Udaipur and then proceed to the temple of Eklingnathji Maharaj. However, the current trustee head, Arvind Singh Mewar, deemed it illegal.
Arvind Singh Issues Notice Against Vishwaraj
The coronation ceremony was marred by disputes within the royal family. Arvind Singh issued a legal notice against Vishwaraj's visit to the temple of the family's deity in Udaipur and the City Palace under ritualistic procedures.
Clash Between Both Sides Leaves Three Injured
After being prevented from entering the City Palace, a skirmish ensued between both sides, leading to stone pelting, injuring three individuals. Vishwaraj Singh's supporters attempted to breach the Palace gate, chanting slogans and gathering en masse outside, while the police sought to intervene and manage the situation.
Arvind Singh Oversees Temple and Palace
Arvind Singh manages both the temple and palace, serving as the President and Managing Trustee of the Shri Eklingji Trust in Udaipur. On Sunday, November 24, the trust managing the City Palace issued two public notices stating that Vishwaraj Singh is not a member of the trust, and for security reasons, no unauthorized individuals would be allowed entry to the Palace museum on Monday.
Police Deployed Outside City Palace
In anticipation of a potential law and order situation, barricades were erected, and heavy police deployment was positioned outside the City Palace and surrounding areas. However, when Vishwaraj Singh was denied entry to the City Palace, his irate supporters broke the barricades and attempted to reach the Palace gates. Vishwaraj Singh condemned the incident, stating that hindering royal traditions is wrong.
Police Engage in Discussions with Both Sides
Senior police officials, including Udaipur District Magistrate Arvind Poswal and SP Yogesh Goyal, engaged in dialogue with Vishwaraj Singh and his supporters to resolve the issue. They also communicated with Arvind Singh's son, but the discussions remained inconclusive.
