Complicated Web: Afghan Boyfriend, Pakistani Brother, and a Luxurious Hotel Hideaway

The city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra is abuzz with a high-profile case involving a woman who stayed at a five-star hotel on Jalna Road for nearly half a year using fake identity documents. Upon growing suspicion, the CIDCO police searched her room and discovered a counterfeit UPSC selection list from 2017, where her name falsely appeared at number 333. Additionally, her Aadhaar card was found to be tampered with.

Further investigations revealed substantial sums were credited to her account from her boyfriend, Ashraf Khalil in Afghanistan, and her brother Awais in Pakistan. Her phone contained images of their passports, visas, and applications for entry into India.

The seriousness of the case has drawn the attention of ATS and Intelligence Bureau officials who are interrogating the woman, identified as 45-year-old Kalpana Trimbaraw Bhagwat. She lived in the hotel with her mother, incurring a daily expense of approximately 7,000 rupees.

Kalpana frequently visited Jaipur and Delhi, claiming connections with several senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and Home Affairs. She assured people of securing visas for those without one and orchestrating major transfers. The police also found a document, reportedly from a former vice-chancellor in Pune, labeling her as the 'Best IAS Officer,' currently under scrutiny. She was in a live-in relationship with a young Afghan man, nearly a decade her junior.

Authorities are now examining the family ties of the Afghan in Pakistan. Kalpana also boasts of interactions with high-profile leaders. DCP Prashant Swami stated, "The entire matter is under thorough investigation to determine if there's more than meets the eye."
