As discussions with Iran regarding its nuclear activities persist, US President Donald Trump has made a significant declaration. Trump expressed that a 'regime change' in Iran would be the 'best thing.' He stated, 'We have dispatched a considerable carrier group towards Iran. I seek a deal, but dealing with them has proven difficult. I previously anticipated a settlement, as did they. Unfortunately, it didn’t materialize, akin to what occurred in Midnight Hammer.'

Addressing American troops in North Carolina, Trump remarked, 'At times, fear is necessary. It’s the sole component that can amend circumstances.'

Preparing for an Extended Operation?

According to a Reuters report, the US military is readying itself for a potential military engagement against Iran, possibly extending over weeks. Two senior US officials disclosed that should Trump command an attack, the engagement could be more extensive than prior ones.

The Pentagon is deliberating on deploying an additional aircraft carrier, fighter jets, guided missile destroyers, and numerous troops to the Middle East. This move serves both offensive and defensive purposes.

A Strategy Distinct from 'Midnight Hammer'

Last year, the US undertook the 'Midnight Hammer' operation targeting Iran's nuclear facilities with limited strikes. The stealth bombers launched from American soil, attacked, and then returned. In retaliation, Iran conducted a restricted strike on the US base in Qatar.

However, this time, the preparation appears to be more intricate. If a prolonged campaign ensues, Iranian government and security sites could be targeted, not just nuclear locations.

The Missile Threat from Iran

Experts contend that Iran possesses a substantial missile arsenal and is fully capable of retaliating against any US assault. US officials believe that an attack could trigger prolonged reciprocal strikes, potentially igniting a regional conflict.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has already warned that any attack on Iran will result in targeting any US military installation in the Middle East. The US has bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, and Turkey.

Negotiations Continue, But Terms Differ

Last week in Oman, discussions between US and Iranian authorities concerning Iran’s nuclear program resumed. Iran signaled willingness to accept limits on its nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanction relief, but it refused to link its missile program to these talks.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meeting Trump in Washington, insisted that any agreement with Iran should consider Israel's security stipulations.

The Stance of the White House

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that Trump is keeping all options open regarding Iran and will make decisions based on national security. The Pentagon declined to comment further. Trump has previously cautioned that if diplomatic solutions fail, the alternative 'could be very painful.'
