The prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine has persisted for over three years. Numerous attempts by various nations to intervene and halt the war have been made, yet success has eluded them. Even the world's most powerful nation, the United States, led by President Donald Trump, has tried several times without achieving a breakthrough. However, it seems that decisive days lie ahead that could shape the outcome of this ongoing struggle.
On August 15th, a crucial meeting is set to take place in Alaska between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin, focusing on strategies to end this conflict. Announced on social media, President Trump hopes to chart a path to peace.
In attendance will also be Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. With all three parties gathered, a ceasefire agreement could potentially be reached, although it may demand significant territorial compromises from Ukraine.
During a media briefing at the White House, President Trump suggested a territorial swap to mutually benefit both nations.
What did Zelenskyy say about the Trump-Putin meeting?
Zelenskyy firmly stated that violating Ukraine's constitution is non-negotiable and Ukraine will never gift land seized by others.
On his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy stressed that any decision taken without Ukraine's consent would undermine peace, noting an ineffective ceasefire is not the solution. Real peace, not a temporary fix, is what is necessary.
To recall, Russia occupied four regions of Ukraine in 2014, areas that Vladimir Putin still claims as Russian territories. These include Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
Since becoming President, Donald Trump has repeatedly attempted to mediate and halt the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but without success. Frustrated by Putin's aggressive stance, Trump imposed new sanctions and tariffs on Russia and its exporting countries.
