An important meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir took place at the White House on Wednesday. It was held in the Cabinet Room, followed by a formal lunch. The main focus of the meeting was maintaining regional peace amid the Iran-Israel conflict. Previously, the White House mentioned Trump invited Munir due to his recommendation for Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, President Trump stated, "We discussed the Iran-Israel issue. Pakistan understands Iran better than us—they are a pivotal factor for regional peace." Trump acknowledged Pakistan's regional insight and influence, suggesting it can help de-escalate the rising conflict diplomatically. A White House spokesperson said the meeting recognized Pakistan's role in maintaining peace in South Asia.

Munir's Nobel Peace Prize Recommendation for Trump

The spokesperson stated, "It is an honor to have Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House. The President thanked him for preventing border tensions between India and Pakistan from escalating into war." Before the meeting, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said President Trump invited General Munir for his recommendation that Trump receive the Nobel Peace Prize for averting nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan.

Initial Trade Discussions Underway

During the meeting, Trump and Munir also discussed economic relations between Pakistan and the U.S. President Trump revealed initial talks on trade between the U.S., Pakistan, and India are happening. While Trump didn’t detail a framework or timeline for a potential agreement with Munir, he stated, "We are engaging in preliminary trade talks—Pakistan's concerns are being acknowledged."
