On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump extended an intriguing invitation to Canada, proposing its participation in the ambitious $175 billion 'Golden Dome' missile defense system at no cost. The catch? Canada would need to become the 51st state of the United States. Trump declared on social media, "I've told Canada that staying as a separate but unequal nation would cost them 61 billion dollars, but becoming our beloved 51st state would be free of charge."

The President asserted in his post, "They are considering the offer."

Canada has yet to officially respond to the statehood proposal.

Last week, President Donald Trump unveiled the Golden Dome Missile Defense System plan, a groundbreaking multi-layered system worth 175 billion dollars, aiming to usher American weaponry into the realm of space. Addressing from the Oval Office, Trump mentioned his aspirations for the system to be operational by 2029, promising the capability to intercept missiles, even those launched from space.

Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed that his administration is holding discussions with the U.S. about participating in the Golden Dome program. During a press conference last week, he expressed that ensuring the safety of Canadians is essential. The advanced missile shield was a topic of dialogue with President Trump and other senior U.S. officials.

The Golden Dome Missile Defense System is designed to integrate terrestrial and space-based capabilities to counter missile threats at all four critical phases of an attack: deactivating missiles before launch, interception in their initial flight phase, disruption mid-course, and capturing them in their final moments before impact.
