In Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district, a shocking event took place where Ajay Kumar, a 36-year-old from Haryana, took his own life while in police custody. This tragic incident occurred on a Sunday at the Kala Amb police station. Ajay had been arrested on Saturday on charges of theft and was subsequently placed under police remand by the court.
According to police reports, Ajay Kumar was found hanging inside the lockup at around 3:50 PM on Sunday. Efforts were made to promptly take him down and rush him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he had already passed away.
Suspension of a Head Constable and a Constable
Once notified, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter. Additionally, the incident was reported to the State Human Rights Commission. Taking the situation seriously, the police department has suspended two officers, a head constable and a constable, due to accusations of negligence. Both have been reassigned to the Home Guards Department for departmental proceedings.
The police state that it remains unclear why Ajay Kumar chose to commit suicide. Investigations are underway to uncover the reasons behind his actions. Death in police custody is a serious issue that demands a thorough probe.
Local police and senior officials have pledged a fair investigation into the case. They have also assured that if any negligence or misconduct is identified, strict actions will be taken against those responsible.
