A catastrophic explosion erupted at a fireworks factory in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, claiming the lives of three women and injuring several others. The blast occurred in a room where chemicals for fancy fireworks were being mixed and stored, resulting in the severe destruction of nearly 10 rooms at the factory.
Reports suggest that the factory had a total of 60 rooms, employing around 200 workers engaged in mixing chemicals, drying, and packaging. It was during this process that the explosion tragically occurred. Among those who lost their lives were Kalaichelvi, Mariyamal, and Thiruvimozhi, while Bhakyalakshmi, Ramasubbu, Lakshmi, and Gomathi sustained injuries and have been taken to the Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment. Details about the injuries remain incomplete, but medical care is ongoing.

Investigations are underway to determine whether negligence or a technical fault caused the explosion. The factory, renowned for producing fancy fireworks, has been shut down temporarily.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. He has announced a compensation package of 4 lakh INR for the families of the deceased, 1 lakh INR for those seriously injured, and 50,000 INR for those with minor injuries.
In response to the tragedy, the government has assured that strict adherence to safety standards in fireworks factories will be enforced, particularly at sites handling hazardous chemicals. Local authorities have also committed to implementing necessary measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
