A devastating accident transpired in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday during the Mayana Kollai festival when a 60-foot high chariot disastrously crumbled, injuring a young man underneath.

Reportedly, the Mayana Kollai festival, which honors the departed, was in full swing when the intricately prepared chariot was rendered unstable. It was readied to carry the effigy of Angalaparameswari Amman alongside the Palaru River.

'The chariot toppled as balance was lost'

Spectators say that as devotees attempted to rotate the chariot, it suddenly lost stability, resulting in its upper part coming crashing down. The incident saw Vimalraj Venmani, aged 30, getting pinned under the wreckage.

'Injured youth hospitalized'

Bystanders managed to extricate Vimalraj and promptly admitted him to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. A video capturing the harrowing incident has since gone viral on social media.
