Destruction in Dehradun's Sahastradhara: Shops Swallowed by Rains, Many Missing

In Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, a cloudburst caused by heavy overnight rains led to disaster in the famous Sahastradhara. The district administration is relentlessly continuing their rescue and relief operations. Several shops were swept away in the incident. Authorities rapidly relocated nearby residents to safer locations overnight. Efforts are ongoing to locate two individuals who are reported missing.

Upon receiving news of the incident, District Magistrate Savin Bansal quickly took charge. He coordinated with various departments and dispatched rescue teams to the scene overnight.

Teams from SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department are engaged in rescue efforts using JCBs and other equipment. The district administration remains on high alert in light of the disaster.

Following the cloudburst in Dehradun, the Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh has been swelling since this morning, with waters reaching the highway. Three individuals trapped in the river were bravely rescued by the SDRF team.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sadness over the damage caused to shops in Sahastradhara due to the overnight cloudburst. The district administration, SDRF, and police are diligently engaged in relief and rescue operations at the site. CM Dhami is maintaining continuous contact with local authorities and personally monitoring the situation, praying for everyone's safety.

Home Minister and Prime Minister Speak to CM Dhami...

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami via phone to discuss the impact of heavy rains in Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister's office reported that both leaders assured full support and emphasized that the central government stands with Uttarakhand during this challenging time. CM Dhami conveyed his gratitude, explaining that the administrative structure remains fully active and that rescue and relief operations are being conducted with utmost urgency.

DM Declares a Holiday

Under the instruction of the District Magistrate, SDM Kumkum Joshi reached the scene overnight. Alarmed by the heavy rains, the District Magistrate declared a holiday for all schools from classes 1 to 12 in Dehradun. The IT Park area in Dehradun witnessed vehicles drifting along the street, akin to toys, due to the intense rain since late last night.

Immediate Rescue Initiated

As soon as the incident was reported, SDRF and NDRF teams arrived promptly at the scene. Utilizing heavy equipment including JCBs, rescue teams worked tirelessly to guide local residents to safer locations. The search for the two missing individuals continues with immense determination.

The Tamasa River is rising in the wake of heavy rains in Dehradun. Over 1-2 feet of debris has accumulated in the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Shivling complex, causing notable damage to the temple premises.

The strong currents have swept away multiple riverside shops, incurring significant financial losses. However, the swift actions of the administration and timely relocation of residents helped avert larger tragedy.
