The decision about the next President of BJP in Tamil Nadu is almost clear. Indeed, Nainar Nagendran himself has submitted his nomination for the position of president. K. Annamalai proposed his name, and other leaders have endorsed it. It is now almost assured that Nainar Nagendran will be the new president of Tamil Nadu BJP.

Nainar Nagendran is a BJP legislator from the Tirunelveli Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu. He submitted the nomination paper for the party's state president post. Currently serving as the vice president, Nagendran was formerly with AIADMK. He was the first candidate to arrive at the BJP's state headquarters, Kamalalayam, and file the nomination. The party mentioned that his nomination was proposed by current president K. Annamalai, Central Minister L. Murugan, former Central Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, and BJP MLA and Women’s Wing President Vanathi Srinivasan.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah mentioned in a post on X that only Nainar Nagendran has filed for the Tamil Nadu BJP president position. He also praised the tenure of the current president, K. Annamalai, indicating that the party will now utilize his organizational skills at the national level. He noted that whether it's conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies to the people or spreading the party's programs to every village, Annamalai's contribution has been unprecedented. BJP will leverage Annamalai's organizational skills at the national level.

Nagendran Joined BJP from AIADMK

Nagendran will take charge of the Tamil Nadu unit of the party at a crucial juncture, as BJP aims to establish itself as a formidable contender in Tamil Nadu's political landscape. His appointment to lead Tamil Nadu BJP comes at a critical time, especially when the party is trying to revive its alliance with AIADMK.

Did BJP Play a Big Gamble on Nagendran?

The decision to appoint Nainar Nagendran as the new state president of Tamil Nadu BJP reflects a strategic move by the party. Having joined BJP only 8 years ago, Nagendran does not typically fulfill the 10-year primary membership requirement for presidency, but the party has prioritized strategic and political equations this time. Nagendran's Mukkulathor (Maravar) ethnic identity and his easy acceptance with AIADMK leadership are seen as assets for BJP to enhance influence in the south and rejuvenate the old alliance.
