India's T20 international captain, Suryakumar Yadav, visited the sacred Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati on the auspicious occasion of Vaikuntha Ekadashi. Accompanied by his wife Devisha, the Indian captain sought blessings at one of the holy shrines of Hinduism. This spiritual retreat comes just weeks before the T20 World Cup commences in Mumbai on February 7.
Upon entering the temple premises, Suryakumar Yadav was seen briefly interacting with the media. Donning a vibrant pink sherwani while Devisha wore a traditional silk saree, Suryakumar didn't shy away from obliging a few fans with selfies. This temple visit forms part of the 35-year-old batsman's much-needed family break after a hectic international schedule.
Suryakumar Eyes Comeback in Vijay Hazare
The Tirumala visit followed India's recent T20 international series against South Africa, where under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, the team clinched a 3-1 victory. The series concluded on December 19. Post this brief hiatus, the Indian captain is set to return to the field in the first week of January, playing for Mumbai in a few matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, before resuming national duties.
Challenges Await Suryakumar in New Zealand Series
Suryakumar Yadav will next spearhead India in a five-match T20 international series against New Zealand, starting January 21. This series holds significant importance as preparation for the T20 World Cup. While team results have been positive, questions regarding the captain's batting form have lingered over the past year.
Captain Struggles for Form
By his high standards, 2025 proved to be one of the most challenging years for Suryakumar Yadav in T20 international cricket. Throughout the year, he failed to notch a single half-century, accumulating only 218 runs across 19 innings, with an average of 13.62 and a strike rate of 123.16. His highest score of 47 came during the Asia Cup.
Despite India's series win over South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav's woes continued as he managed just 34 runs in four innings, averaging 8.50 with a strike rate of 103.03. Nevertheless, the Indian captain remains confident and optimistic about regaining form.
