Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, is set to retire on November 10, 2024, and before his retirement, the Supreme Court's 'War Room' is a hot topic. This War Room is the brainchild of Chandrachud and showcases cutting-edge technology.

What is the War Room Like?

This War Room features a massive video screen on one side, with numerous computers and monitors for the team on the other. Work kicks off at 8 AM, as the focused team keeps a keen eye on every minor or major court activity.

Technology Registrar Hargur Vinder Singh Jaggi explains, 'From this War Room, we monitor proceedings in all 17 courts of the Supreme Court. Ensuring seamless live streaming of the Constitutional Bench is a priority. The biggest challenge arises during high-public-interest cases with limited video conferencing capacity. Yet, we have managed effectively so far.'

Work is also underway on the beta version of live streaming. Jaggi stated, 'It is in testing, with ongoing efforts to enhance its functionality.'

This War Room forms a part of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud's visionary plan. It integrates information from the National Judicial Data Grid, providing live updates on pending cases nationwide. The War Room is a pivotal step towards greater transparency and efficiency in the Supreme Court's operations.

The Team Behind the War Room

The IT team working in the War Room includes Shahnawaz, Tejinder Singh, and Pawan Prathapa. They monitor everything from case filing to resolution. Ashish J. Shridhonkar, head of the E-Courts Project, elaborated on the significance and technical nuances of this War Room.

This initiative by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has charted a major step towards modernizing and increasing the transparency of India's judicial system.
