The troubles are mounting for YouTubers Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia due to allegations of making jokes about people with disabilities on social media. A bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh has taken a serious stance on the matter, emphasizing the need to increase sensitivity towards individuals with disabilities in society.
The panel has directed that Samay Raina be made a party to the case involving jokes about disability and illness. Ranveer Allahbadia is also urged to join as a party in the case.
Jokes About the 16 Crore Injection Case!
The bench recorded a video clip by Samay Raina where he mocked a blind child and a child suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. The clip also mentions a case involving a two-month-old baby receiving an injection worth 16 crores, which Samay Raina ridiculed.
The Supreme Court had received a petition for arrangements to administer the injection. Later, through crowd funding, the required sum was gathered to administer the injections. The government waived 6 crore rupees of import duty on importing the injections from the United States on humanitarian grounds.
Accused of Joking about SMA Patients
CURE SMA Foundation has appealed to the court to intervene in this case. The appeal references two videos by Samay Raina, claiming they mock the treatment of SMA patients and insult the blind and cross-eyed individuals. The petition also refers to some insensitive videos made by cricketers.
The Supreme Court suggested that a special writ petition could be filed for relief. The Court described it as a serious issue and directed that the concerned video clips be produced in Court.
