A storm has erupted over BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's statement regarding the Supreme Court. On Monday, a hearing took place in the Supreme Court on the demand for contempt proceedings against Dubey. During this session, the lawyer stated that remarks have been made concerning the court and against the Chief Justice of India.

Nishikant Dubey's statements were also highlighted before the Supreme Court. In response, Justice B.R. Gavai queried, 'What do you seek?' The lawyer replied, 'I wish to file a contempt case.' Justice Gavai replied unequivocally, mentioning, 'Then you must file it. You don't need our permission. It’s the Attorney General from whom you must seek approval.'

Before this, a letter had been addressed to the Chief Justice of India and Supreme Court judges by Advocate Narendra Mishra. This petition sought appropriate action against Nishikant. The letter mentioned that public statements made by Dubey against the nation's Supreme Court were insulting and inciteful. These statements were false, reckless, and malicious, tantamount to criminal contempt. Such remarks were a premeditated attempt to intimidate the judiciary, incite public disorder, and tarnish an institution safeguarding the Constitution.

A letter urged the CJI to take suo motu cognizance of these statements and initiate criminal contempt proceedings.
