In a recent development, Pakistan has threatened to close its airspace to Indian airlines, potentially disrupting international flights. In response, Air India, owned by Tata, and the budget airline IndiGo have issued travel advisories this Thursday.
Air India expressed concerns, saying, 'A ban on all Indian airlines over Pakistani airspace has been imposed. This will likely lead to alternate route usage for our flights heading to or coming from North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.'
'Air India extends sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused to our passengers due to the unexpected airspace closure, which is beyond our control. Safety of our customers and crew remains our utmost priority.'
IndiGo's Response
IndiGo has acknowledged the impact on its international routes, stating, 'The abrupt announcement of airspace closure by Pakistan has affected some of our international flights. We recognize the inconvenience it may cause, and our teams are working diligently to ensure passengers reach their destinations swiftly.'

Response from Pakistan's Prime Minister Office
The announcement followed a declaration by Pakistan's National Security Committee (NSC) regarding retaliatory action against India. Pakistan's Prime Minister Office stated that the country's airspace would be 'immediately closed to all Indian-owned or operated airlines.'
Pakistan's Announcements
Pakistan also declared a halt to all bilateral agreements with India, including the Shimla Agreement. It ordered the closure of the Wagah border crossing and suspended all cross-border transit through that route. Individuals who crossed with valid authorization must return by April 30, 2025.
Additionally, Pakistan suspended all visas issued to Indian citizens under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES), except for Sikh religious pilgrims. Indian citizens currently in Pakistan under SVES are instructed to exit within 48 hours.
