The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids on Tuesday at 8 locations in Srinagar. These actions pertain to the murder of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhatt in 1990. This marks the first investigation raid by the SIA regarding this case since April 1990.
Sources indicate the case dates back to a time of numerous attacks on Kashmiri Pandits. The initiative to reopen multiple murder cases from the early 1990s was recently taken by the Lieutenant Governor's administration. This led to the current SIA actions.
The raid also targeted the residence of former Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik in the Maisuma area of Srinagar. Many of the other raided locations are known to be former JKLF commanders' bases.
