A 48-hour ceasefire is currently in place between Pakistan and Afghanistan; however, Pakistan remains concerned about the potential repercussions following the cessation of this truce. Amid these tensions, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is willing to engage in dialogues with Afghanistan, but such discussions must be based on legitimate and mutual respect.

Sharif made these remarks while addressing the Federal Cabinet, where he discussed the ongoing tensions with Afghanistan. He mentioned that Pakistan agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire at Afghanistan’s request and emphasized that the decision now lies with Afghanistan on whether they desire peace. Pakistan is ready to resolve this issue at the negotiation table.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan is open to dialogue with Afghanistan under legitimate conditions. Notably, a temporary ceasefire has been agreed upon between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and both nations have asserted that it was made at the other country’s request.

Previously, there was news that amidst the conflict with Afghanistan, Pakistan sought immediate mediation from Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Pakistani officials had urgently appealed to these nations to intervene and prevent further Afghan hostilities.

Last week, Pakistan targeted camps belonging to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in Kabul. This incident marks one of the most severe confrontations between the two countries since the Taliban assumed power in Afghanistan in 2021. The developments unfolded as the Taliban's foreign minister was visiting India.

The conflict between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban began on October 8, with clashes erupting in the previous week when Pakistan attacked Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan's positions in Kabul. According to the Pakistani army’s media wing (ISPR), security forces repelled an attack by Afghan Taliban at the Balochistan border.
