Even the Cool Climes of Himachal's Una-Hamirpur Top 40 Degrees, A Look at the Plains

According to the weather department, a heatwave and storm warning has been issued for ten districts of Himachal Pradesh.

Heatwaves have scorched Northern India to its zenith this year. The soaring temperatures have engulfed even the traditionally cool mountainous regions. In many Districts of Himachal Pradesh, the mercury has breached the 40 degrees Celsius mark. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the region remained engulfed by a scorching heatwave with temperatures soaring four to eight degrees above the norm.

Except for Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, a heatwave and storm warning have been issued for the different locations within ten districts on the 19th of June. Moreover, forecasts predict storms and lightning in areas of Una Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts on the 20th of June.

According to the IMD, regions are likely to continue experiencing heatwaves over the next couple of days, potentially alleviating posthaste. Between June 20-24, the high hills, mid-hills from June 19-21, and the lower regions on June 19 and 20 are expected to witness sporadic rainfall.

Una district saw dreadful temperatures, peaking at 43.5 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest in the state. Subsequently, Dhaulakuan saw 42.2 degrees Celsius, Bilaspur 42 degrees Celsius, and Hamirpur 41.2 degrees Celsius temperatures. The heatwave also prevails across Sirmour, Shimla, Kangra, Kullu, Nahan Solan, and Mandi.

Some regions experienced rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Bajora recording the highest at 16 mm. Successive rainfall was noted in Mandi, Dharamshala, Kangra, Palampur, Dalhousie, Gohar, Bhuntar, Sainj, Tindar, Banjar, Manali, Sundernagar, Pandoh, Sarkaghat, Katola, Bharmour, and Chauri.

Some districts also recorded slight rises in minimum temperatures, with Paonta Sahib being the warmest during nightfall, at a minimum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius. Followed by Dhaulakuan at 27.6 degrees Celsius, Dehra Gopipur at 27 degrees Celsius, and Nahan at 26.4 degrees Celsius.

Delhi's Weather

A shift in Delhi's weather is expected due to a Western disturbance. The Meteorological Department forecasts strong winds with thunder and light rainfall in Delhi from 19th to 20th June, possibly driving temperatures down. The IMD anticipates the max temperatures throughout the week to hover between 42 to 44 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures laying around 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.

National Weather Updates

SkyMet, a weather forecasting agency, suggests moderate to heavy rainfall likely to occur over the next 24 hours in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Southern parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Sikkim, the sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Southern Odisha, and Chhattisgarh could also see light to moderate rainfall, with some parts expecting heavy downpours.
