During a dialogue with a delegation in Indonesia, Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, perpetuated the notion of its separation from India. He emphasized that the government's decision to abrogate this article has finally dismantled this perception.
Addressing the separate identity as a significant issue, Salman Khurshid claimed a positive transformation followed the abrogation of Article 370. He highlighted the subsequent elections that saw 65% voter participation, leading to the establishment of a government in Kashmir. He argued against any attempt to reverse these events.
'Finally over...'
Salman Khurshid remarked, "Kashmir had a longstanding major issue that partly stemmed from Article 370's reflection of the government's mindset, suggesting a disconnect from the rest of the nation. However, with Article 370's nullification, this issue has been conclusively resolved."
Addressing members of Indonesia's think tanks and academia, Salman Khurshid stated, "Following this, elections were held with 65% voter turnout. Today, Kashmir has an elected government, and thus, any attempt to undo the developments or revert prosperity would be opposed."

Under Omar Abdullah's leadership, the Jammu and Kashmir government proposed restoring Article 370 shortly after assuming power last September. The BJP strongly opposed this, asserting Article 370 will not be restored, even if Indira Gandhi returns from heaven.
Initially opposed to Article 370's abrogation, the Congress party later acknowledged the legal closure of the matter following the Supreme Court's decision upholding the central government's action. The party stated that from a constitutional perspective, this issue is now 'closed.'
