Following torrential rain in Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for landslides. Alerts have been announced for 18 out of the 22 areas known for landslide vulnerabilities, maintaining a threat due to continuous rainfall. Approximately 130 areas are experiencing power supply disruptions, coupled with statewide water supply challenges due to flash floods and landslides. These conditions have led to 259 roads being closed.
The power interruptions have inevitably hampered water distribution across the region.
Swift Action by the Sukhu Government
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has instructed the closure of schools in the districts of Mandi, Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur on June 30 following a red alert issued by the Meteorological Department.
Minister Jagat Singh Negi, while speaking to the media, mentioned conducting a review meeting today (Monday) following an earlier discussion about the monsoons. Officials from various departments have assessed the current situation and discussed preparedness efforts, with directives for additional action as necessary.
Human and Infrastructure Losses, Rail Services Disrupted
The heavy rains have impacted not only roadways but also rail services. The Shimla-Kalka rail line faced disruptions due to fallen trees and debris, causing several hours of delay.

Fortunately, the building had been evacuated the previous night, preventing casualties. Concerns over five other buildings have led to evacuations, with residents relocated to safer areas. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
