In an intense investigation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) grilled Robert Vadra for almost 5 hours on Wednesday in connection with the Sikohpur land deal case in Gurugram. Questions were asked about how the land use for nearly three and a half acres was modified and who was involved. Vadra has been summoned again by the ED for further questioning tomorrow (Thursday). After the session ended today, Robert Vadra exited the ED office, commenting, "They (ED) have a great affection for me, they’ll keep calling me. Jai Hind."
Aged 56, Robert Vadra arrived at the ED office around 11 AM, where he was greeted with a supportive hug by his wife and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra before entering. Post a brief afternoon break for lunch at home, Vadra returned to continue the interrogation, finally leaving the ED headquarters at around 6 PM. Priyanka Gandhi stood by in the visitors' room throughout the day.
The ED has summoned Robert Vadra for further questioning on Thursday. According to sources, across two days, Vadra faced approximately 11 hours of questioning and encountered nearly a dozen inquiries. His statements are being recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to PTI, Robert Vadra remarked that being part of the Gandhi family makes him a target. "If I were aligned with the BJP, perhaps this wouldn’t be happening," he articulated, labeling the ED's actions as "politically motivated retaliation." He further stated that the public has lost trust in investigation agencies.
What is the Case About?
The matter involves land in the Manesar-Sikohpur (currently Sector-83) area in Gurugram, purchased by Robert Vadra’s firm Skylight Hospitality Private Limited for INR 7.5 crore in February 2008, which was later sold to DLF for INR 58 crore in September 2012. The transaction spiraled into controversy when IAS officer Ashok Khemka annulled the land mutation, dismissing it as a violation of the State Consolidation Act and other procedures.
