The decision was sparked when a party spokesperson openly criticized a statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
What Exactly Did Amit Shah Say?
On December 17, during a discourse on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah remarked that repeatedly invoking the name Ambedkar has become fashionable. He humorously suggested that if one were to take God's name as frequently, they might be guaranteed heaven for seven lifetimes.
Continuing his critique on the Congress party, Shah expressed satisfaction that Ambedkar’s name is frequently invoked, stating that it's commendable to say Ambedkar's name a hundred times more. However, he questioned the sincerity towards Ambedkar, highlighting why Ambedkar had resigned from the country’s first cabinet.
The Home Minister elaborated that Ambedkar expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, disagreed with the government's foreign policy, and did not agree with Article 370. Feeling assurances were unmet, Ambedkar stepped down. Shah further referenced a letter where Jawaharlal Nehru noted that while Rajaji's departure would cause some harm, Ambedkar's resignation would not weaken the cabinet.
