Voting was held once again on Wednesday, April 24th in Arunachal Pradesh. Eight polling centers across four assembly constituencies witnessed a re-polling session. An election official stated that an estimated 74 percent turnout was recorded, which might climb even higher as lines of voters were present till closing time.
Voting commenced at 6 AM and concluded at 2 PM across the eight polling stations. In the wake of incidents on April 19th involving violence and damage to EVMs during simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the necessity of re-polling became apparent.
The Election Commission ordered a re-poll in the Bameng assembly of the East Kameng district. Chief Election Officer Pawan Kumar Sen mentioned that in Upper Subansiri's Nacho electorate, four booths – Dingser, Bogia Siyum, Jimbari, and Lengri – were included in the re-poll list. Extensive security measures were in place for the re-poll.
"For these eight centers, we had a significant deployment of security personnel and have resolved that this time, any interference with the EVMs or any unlawful activity will meet stiff action," he said. Out of an approximate 892,694 voters, 82.71 percent had exercised their voting rights on April 19th. With the ruling BJP already securing ten assembly seats uncontested, the voter turnout for the Lower House of Parliament stood at 77.51 percent. Assembly elections will be counted on June 2nd, while the Lower House counting occurs on June 4th.
