Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to embark on the 'Voter Rights March' today from Sasaram, Bihar, in protest against the SIR process and 'vote theft'. Senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, along with leaders from the INDIA bloc, will be part of this journey.
At the Congress headquarters in Indira Bhavan, Pawan Khera, Chairman of Congress's Media and Publicity Department, unveiled the detailed roadmap of the march. He announced that the journey would begin on August 17 from Sasaram, Bihar, covering 1,300 kilometers and 20 districts over 16 days. Alongside Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, other leaders from the INDIA bloc will also participate.
Commencing on Sunday morning, August 17, at 11:30 am at the Suara Airport in Sasaram, the march will address a public gathering before moving to Aurangabad. Here, the Mahagathbandhan leaders will rest overnight in Kutumba.
The agenda includes stops at Sasaram, Rohtas on August 17; Dev Road, Amba-Kutumba on August 18; Hanuman Temple, Poonama, Wazirganj on August 19; Durga Temple, Sheikhpura on August 21; Chandra Bagh Chowk, Munger on August 22; Kursela Chowk, Barari, Katihar on August 23; and ultimately reaching Ekma Chowk, Ekma Assembly, Chhapra on August 30. The grand finale takes place with a rally in Patna on September 1, with breaks scheduled for August 20, 25, and 31.
Accusations Against BJP for 'Vote Theft'
Pawan Khera emphasized that this march is a fight for the right to 'one person, one vote'. He accused the BJP of engaging in fraudulent vote manipulation processes. The SIR process conspiracy in Bihar regarding 'vote theft' has now come to light, he stated, with common citizens unveiling evidence of the same.
What Did Pawan Khera Say About the SIR Process?
Congress leader Pawan Khera cited a recent Supreme Court ruling on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to criticize the Election Commission. He pointed out that the Supreme Court had to intervene, resulting in compliance with demands from the INDIA bloc and social activists. He expressed concern that this was not only a plot to rob votes but also a conspiracy to erase the identity of Dalits, backward classes, tribals, deprived, oppressed, and minorities. Denying them voting rights today could lead to exclusion from government schemes in the future.
'Conspirators Will Keep Trying to Steal Votes'
Pawan Khera declared that this journey will be historic because it's a struggle for the right to vote, imperative for breathing freely in independent India. He urged the people of Bihar to join this fight. He warned that conspirators are not going to desist from attempting to steal votes, urging everyone to stay vigilant. Whenever Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a journey, he remarked, the nation's democracy has taken a new turn.
