Online shopping has surged in popularity, making delivery agents indispensable in the chain of getting goods directly to doorsteps. Whether it's pouring rain or late at night, these dedicated individuals zoom through streets, carrying hefty bags on their bikes. But have you ever wondered about their earnings, how they land these jobs, and the salary that companies like Amazon and Myntra offer for each parcel delivery?
We had a conversation with Dhananjay, an Amazon delivery agent who has been with the company for several years, covering major sectors in Noida such as Film City, Sector 18, and 16. He shared with us the earnings and benefits of being a delivery boy, and explained who bears the cost if a parcel is broken or lost.
How to Become a Delivery Agent?
Dhananjay explained that to become an Amazon delivery agent, one needs to apply at the Amazon office located in Sector 95. After submitting the application form, the process involves verification and training. Once the 3-4 day training is completed, candidates receive their assignment as delivery agents. Each candidate is assigned to deliver parcels in specific sectors, which could have multiple delivery agents. Similarly, registration for Myntra is done by visiting their office.
What Is Taught During Training?
During training, emphasis is placed on engaging politely with customers. Delivery agents are familiarized with different locales and routes to ensure timely delivery with the aid of GPS and mapping apps. They are also instructed on the correct methods of handling packages and food items to prevent any damage en route. Additionally, handling customer complaints professionally and ensuring on-time deliveries are vital components of their training.
Payment and Safety Aspects
Regarding payment procedures, training includes managing cash-on-delivery transactions, keeping financial records, and utilizing online payment methods like wallets or UPI. They are educated on updating orders via mobile apps and recording their status. Safety is stressed with guidelines on following traffic rules, wearing helmets and protective gear, and safeguarding packages during adverse weather conditions. Moreover, they are taught to promptly report emergencies, such as accidents or theft, using emergency contact numbers.

How Much Do Delivery Agents Earn?
Dhananjay shared that delivery agents earn ₹12 per parcel. In densely populated areas, they might deliver over 100 parcels a day, while the average is around 80 parcels. The number of parcels allocated to each agent is determined by the company. Those who excel are entrusted with more deliveries. Myntra’s delivery partner, Karan, stated they receive ₹14 per parcel, with occasional ₹2 incentives, averaging earnings to ₹16 per parcel.
What Happens If a Parcel is Lost or Damaged?
Dhananjay explained that if a parcel is lost or damaged during delivery, the delivery agent must compensate for it. For example, if an item worth ₹800 is lost, the agent deposits ₹800 with the company. If something is broken, the cost of the item must be covered. If an item seems damaged when received, the agents can refuse to deliver it and return it without hesitation.
Earnings Per Parcel, Not a Salary – Do They Have Insurance?
The delivery agent revealed that companies provide insurance. Amazon ensures the insurance of its delivery partners, including bike accident coverage, providing assistance during mishaps. It is reported that approximately 372 people work at Amazon's Noida office.
