On Tuesday afternoon, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, arrived at the home of the late senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, where he met with the bereaved family and offered his condolences. He emphasized that this is not just a single family's issue. The Congress leader also expressed that such incidents send a wrong message.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi landed at Chandigarh airport early in the morning, welcomed by Haryana's leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda along with other Congress leaders. They proceeded directly to Puran Kumar's residence, where Gandhi spent about half an hour conversing with IAS wife Amneet Puran Kumar and their daughter Amulya.
'Discrimination Has Persisted for Years'
After paying his respects to Puran, Gandhi addressed the media, stating, 'There has been systemic discrimination for years. Officers conspire against their peers to undermine and ruin careers. This isn't just one family's issue; millions of our Dalit brothers and sisters face this daily. What message are we sending? No matter how successful, powerful, or intelligent you are, if you are Dalit, you can be oppressed, crushed, and this is unacceptable to us.'

Stop the Drama: Rahul
As the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, my message to Prime Minister Modi and Haryana's CM is to fulfill the promises made to your two daughters. Allow their father’s funeral to proceed. Stop this spectacle.
Gandhi demanded action against the officers, urging that the family's troubles be alleviated.
Chiefly, IPS Y. Puran Kumar tragically shot himself in a soundproof basement of his Sector-11 residence in Chandigarh on October 7th. The day before his death, he left a will and an eight-page suicide note for his wife, Amneet, accusing Haryana DGP Satrudjit Kapoor, Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, and 13 other officials of caste-based harassment, mental torture, and career sabotage.
The deceased IPS noted his inability to endure further, blaming those responsible for his condition.
Refusal to Conduct Funeral
Puran Kumar's wife, IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, lodged a complaint with Chandigarh Police, leading to the registration of the case. The bereaved family demands the accused officers be named in the FIR and arrested; they have refused to proceed with the postmortem and funeral services until this is done.
Notice Sent to IPS's Wife by Police
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police have issued a notice to the late IPS's wife, requesting Puran's laptop. The police believe it holds key evidence pertinent to the investigation, especially regarding the authenticity of the suicide note and related emails.
The police seek to send this laptop to the Central Forensic Science Lab (CFSL) to verify the suicide note's authenticity, ensuring it was indeed composed by IPS Puran Kumar on his laptop.
