As the second phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections draws near, scheduled for April 26, all eyes are on Kerala's 20 seats. Just five days before the voting, Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP from Wayanad, launched a scathing attack on the Modi government by sharing a video on his official account showcasing the deplorable conditions of the Kerala Express train from New Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram.
In the shared video, people can be seen lying on the floor near the toilets of the AC coach, with overcrowding evident throughout the coach. Rahul Gandhi, accompanying the video with a caption, asserted, 'Under Narendra Modi's reign, train travel has become a punishment. Due to the Modi government's focus on advertising elite trains and reducing general compartments, passengers from all social strata are suffering. Even those with confirmed tickets cannot enjoy a peaceful journey on their seats. Common people are forced to seek refuge on the floor and even in toilets. The government's policies seem designed to weaken the railways, making it easier to sell them off to friends. We must save the common man's mode of transport and remove the Modi government, which is intent on destroying the railways.'
The video, shared by Rahul Gandhi, was recorded by a passenger during his journey on the Kerala Express. Towards the end of the video, the passenger, speaking in Malayalam, describes the situation as dire, with passengers forced to sit on the floor and atop each other due to the extreme overcrowding. He also points out that even those with AC coach tickets cannot find space on their designated seats.
