Amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russia claims to have advanced once more in northeastern Ukraine. On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that their troops have gained complete control over the village of Starytsia, situated near the city of Vovchansk, close to the Ukraine-Russia border.
According to Russia, this area was the focus of a new military campaign initiated by Russian forces in May 2024. Despite the sustained efforts to strengthen its grasp over the past few months, Ukrainian forces have offered considerable resistance.

However, the Ukrainian military has not officially confirmed Russia's claim. The Ukrainian General Staff, in a report released late Saturday, noted six attacks by Russian forces in Starytsia and surrounding areas, but did not state that the village had fallen under Russian control.
No Clarity on Kharkiv Village Capture
DeepState, a military blog monitoring Ukrainian military activities using open-source information, did not specifically mention Starytsia in its Friday report. Nevertheless, the blog acknowledged that Russian forces are maintaining pressure in the Vovchansk area.
Russia Bombards Ukrainian Drone Bases
The Russian Defense Ministry also claims that their forces conducted extensive overnight attacks on Ukrainian drone bases and energy infrastructure. These attacks aim to undermine Ukraine's military capabilities and infrastructure.

Over the past few months, Russian forces have gradually pushed westward in southeastern Ukraine, announcing the capture of new villages weekly. Most of their advances so far have been recorded in the Donetsk region.
