Priyanka Gandhi has been announced as the candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary seat on behalf of the United Democratic Front (UDF). In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak, Priyanka discussed her electoral debut and her commitments, asserting, 'I promise to fulfill what I have pledged to the people. I will work diligently and always stand by the people. I will raise their voices in Parliament and all other forums.'

'A Familial Bond with Wayanad, Life-long Respect'

Addressing allegations from the Left and BJP that Wayanad is being turned into a family stronghold, Priyanka clarified, 'It's incorrect to say that members of the Gandhi family have only represented Amethi and Rae Bareli. Amethi is currently represented by KL Sharma. My brother's connection with Wayanad transcends politics. When others turned away from them, Wayanad stood by them. This is something our family will forever be grateful for. If this signifies a familial bond, then yes, Wayanad is our family, and I will respect that forever.'

Avoid Politics in Disaster, Aid for Wayanad

Priyanka Gandhi emphasized the need for a package for Wayanad's landslide victims, which the Centre has yet to provide. She lamented, 'The saddest part is the central government is playing politics. I saw this happen in Himachal Pradesh, and now in Wayanad too. Political games have no place in times of disaster. Unfortunately, I've witnessed this before and now again. I will ensure they get what they need. This is when we expect aid. I will raise my voice so high that they will be compelled to help Wayanad.'

It's important to note that the Wayanad parliamentary region spans across three districts: Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode, encompassing seven assembly areas - Kalpetta, Sultan Bathery, Mananthavady (Wayanad), Thiruvambady (Kozhikode), Eranad, Wandoor, and Nilambur (Malappuram).

Congress' High Hopes with Priyanka

Congress is hopeful that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's candidacy will bring better performance in Wayanad due to her popularity and influential persona. Despite facing strong opposition from CPI(M) and other regional parties, Congress believes Priyanka's candidacy will garner empathy and trust, leading to an even larger victory margin this time.
