After the Narendra Modi-led Central Government, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, under Yogi Adityanath, has presented a substantial gift to its state employees before Holi. The Government has declared a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), signaling a significant leap in their salaries. The upscaled DA benefits will become effective from January 1, 2024.
Additional Burden of 350 Crores on the State Treasury
Nearly 10 lakh state employees and 8 lakh teachers will benefit from this decision by Yogi Govt, increasing the financial responsibility by 350 crores. The Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, Deepak Kumar, has issued orders in this regard, stating that arrears for January and February will be deposited into the employees' PF accounts, while the DA for March will be paid with the April salary.
DA Jumps from 46% to 50%
Before the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, the Central Government benefitted central employees with a DA hike, and now, the Uttar Pradesh Government has provided a similar benefit. With this increase, the state employees' DA will surge from 46% to 50%, leading to a noticeable boost in their salaries.
Central Employees Also Benefitted
The PM Narendra Modi-led Government also recently announced a 4% DA rise post-Cabinet meeting, increasing it from 46% to 50%. The DA-DR hike decision for employees and pensioners is expected to add an additional burden of about 12,879 crores on the Central Treasury.
Salary Increase Breakdown
With the DA hike, if an employee currently receives a basic salary of 18,000, the Dearness Allowance goes from 8,280 to 9,000, resulting in a direct salary increase of 720. Similarly, for the maximum basic salary of 56,900, the DA jumps from 26,174 to 28,450, marking an increment of 2,276.
