VBA leader Prakash Ambedkar, on Thursday, openly shared his perspective on the seat distribution within the MVA. He revealed the crux of the deadlock and discussed his involvement in the negotiations. According to Ambedkar, MVA leaders had invited the VBA for discussions, which led to their participation in a recent meeting. The outcome of the meeting and what it entails for the future will be disclosed by them, he stated, choosing to keep his stance reserved until then.
Ambedkar clarified that they had not demanded exactly 27 seats but are fully prepared for them out of the total 48. However, upon attending the meeting, it became apparent that the MVA leaders had not yet reached a verdict. He highlighted that the NCP, Congress, and Shiv Sena are not in alignment over 10 to 15 seats. The strategy for these seats, whether to contest separately or collaboratively, will determine their next course of action, which cannot be decided prematurely. He recalled how the last election resulted in a loss of 8 seats for them. While Muslim votes went to Congress and NCP, they were unable to secure the rest.
He expressed confidence in VBA's capacity to garner over 200,000 votes in 46 of the 48 seats if candidates are allocated effectively. With this potential, he reassured there is no cause for concern on their part. It is the MVA that should be apprehensive. Ambedkar was optimistic that the VBA could independently challenge the BJP.
He addressed the notion of collaboration, stating that they have not ruled out the possibility, but the ball is in the MVA’s court. Until the MVA resolves its issues over the 15 contested seats, VBA cannot make a final decision and will wait until the deadline for submitting forms. He emphasized that their decisions are not based on individual candidates but on the collective strength of the party cadre. Each party must come to an agreement that ensures mutual protection, as they are not solitary contractors but stewards of their respective parties.
For the three alliances within the MVA, coming together is an obligation born out of necessity. It seems likely they will unite. As for the VBA's alignment with any single entity, that remains undecided. For now, they are inclined to join forces with all three constituents.
