A Pune court has sent Manorama Khedkar, mother of Maharashtra's trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar, to judicial custody for 14 days. The court rejected her bail application in a criminal case related to a land dispute and sent her to custody.
The prosecution stated that Manorama is charged with attempted murder, and only a session court can provide relief. Manorama's police custody ended on Monday, after which she was presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court. The court then sent her to judicial custody for 14 days.
Manorama's lawyer had filed a bail application for her. However, the court denied the application, stating that a case under IPC Section 307 is registered against her, which can only be heard in a session court. The court refused to intervene and dismissed the bail application.
It's worth noting that Manorama Khedkar was arrested last year in a land dispute case in Pune district for threatening people with a gun. The incident's video went viral on social media this month, leading to her arrest.
Manorama Khedkar Arrested from a Hotel in Raigad
After the video of Manorama threatening farmers with a gun went viral, she went into hiding. She was staying in a hotel in Mahad, Raigad, under a false identity. Pune police arrested her from the hotel.
As the video of her waving the gun went viral on social media, pressure mounted on Manorama. Fearing legal action, she disappeared. When the police arrived at her residence, she was not there. She continuously hid from the police, and her phone was switched off, thus not cooperating with the investigation. The police were conducting a search operation to locate her family.
