Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday where he unveiled developmental projects worth over 6,400 crore rupees during the 'Developed India, Developed Jammu Kashmir' event in Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium. Post-address, PM purchased a Pashmina shawl from a stall and engaged in conversation with the female artisan present.

Following her address in Srinagar, the female artisan shared with Aaj Tak that while she was hand-spinning on a modern spinning wheel, PM Modi purchased a shawl, which delighted everyone at the stall. She explained the benefits of the modern spinning wheel, noting how it eases women’s work, preventing leg and back pain and fostering better income.
'We trained 500 women'
She continued, saying no one had brought a modern spinning wheel to their region. In her company, they have trained 500 women. The advent of the modern spinning wheel is set to benefit them greatly. It's important to note that Pashmina shawls are handcrafted, involving very fine work.
'We are fortunate...'
The owner of the Pashmina shawl company, Me and K, expressed their good fortune that the Prime Minister purchased their shawl, highlighting its handmade nature and Geographical Indication (GI) status. He mentioned these shawls empower women as mostly female artisans create them.
PM inaugurates projects worth 5,000 crores
PM Modi attended the 'Developed India, Developed Jammu Kashmir' event and inaugurated schemes worth approximately 5,000 crore rupees aimed at boosting the Union Territory's agro-economy. These included nationwide tourism-related projects worth over 1,400 crore rupees under the 'Swadesh Darshan' and 'Prasad' (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) schemes, including a project for integrated development.
