A harrowing incident from Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh has emerged, where superstition led to the brutal killing of a woman accused of witchcraft. Her husband was also severely injured in the attack using a sharp weapon.
The incident occurred in Parasoi village of the Obra police jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Rajvanti, and her husband is 57-year-old Babulal Kharwar. On a fateful Wednesday night, a man named Gulab, accompanied by others, entered their home. He accused the couple of practicing witchcraft and launched a savage attack with a weapon.

Rajvanti succumbed to her injuries immediately, while Babulal was gravely injured. Neighbors quickly informed the police and rushed Babulal to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.
Obra Police Station Officer Rajesh Singh mentioned the initial investigation points to superstition and an old dispute. ASP Anil Kumar reported that the main accused, Gulab, has been arrested and a case registered under sections for murder and attempted murder. Efforts are on to apprehend the other culprits.
Unfortunately, beliefs in witchcraft and black magic still dominate some minds, leading to tragic losses of innocent lives. Police promise a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim's family.
