A 50-year-old woman passed away during treatment at a hospital in Palamu, Jharkhand, which led to widespread unrest in the area. The bereaved family and villagers expressed their anger vehemently, blocking the Japla-Chatra road for nearly five hours. This event resulted in lengthy queues of vehicles on both sides.
According to the agency, the deceased was identified as Kalawati Devi, age 50, from Jaynagar in the Indrapuri police station area of Rohtas district, Bihar. Sonu Kumar Chaudhary, the officer in charge of the Hussainabad police station, stated that the angry family and villagers blocked the road demanding compensation from 7 AM until noon, after which they cleared the blockade.

Anil Kumar Srivastava, the Civil Surgeon, explained that approximately 10 days earlier, Kalawati Devi underwent surgery at Aryan Hospital in Hussainabad. After her condition deteriorated post-surgery, she was referred to Ranchi for further treatment, where she ultimately passed away. The Civil Surgeon noted that the private hospital was previously sealed following the discovery of negligence.
Srivastava also mentioned that two additional patients died last week in Hussainabad's private hospitals due to negligence, bringing the district's healthcare quality and private hospital oversight into question. Meanwhile, Pankaj Kumar, the Block Development Officer of Hussainabad, presented the deceased's family with a cheque of 20,000 rupees for funeral expenses. In response to the incident, local authorities have heightened security and intensified the investigation into private hospital negligence.
The uproar over the woman's death was felt across the community. Her passing highlighted critical issues within the healthcare system. The long-standing struggles faced by patients demand attention and reform to prevent further tragedies and restore the trust of the people in local medical facilities.
