Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Sunday that 16 individuals have been arrested across the state for making provocative and seditious comments following the Pahalgam attack. CM Sarma shared on the social media platform 'X', stating, 'So far, 16 arrests have been made. Strict action is being enforced against them.' Prior reports on Saturday evening confirmed the arrest of 14 individuals.

Aminul Islam, a legislator from the opposition party AIUDF, is among those detained. CM Sarma indicated that if necessary, legal action under the National Security Act (NSA) would be undertaken against those arrested.

Sarma emphasized, 'There is no comparison between India and Pakistan; both are adversary nations, and that's how it should be perceived.' The Assam government is firm in its stance that any anti-national activities will not be tolerated.

The incident surfaced when terrorists attacked a tourist spot in Baisaran, located in the southern part of Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The attack claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists.

Authorities report that some individuals in Assam made objectionable and inflammatory comments on social media regarding the attack, prompting swift police action leading to arrests. The Chief Minister has made it clear that such activities will not be condoned under any circumstance. The state government appeals to all citizens to act responsibly on sensitive issues and maintain peace.

In Jharkhand's Bokaro district, a youth was arrested on Wednesday for posting controversial content on social media following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. According to police, the accused, Mohammad Naushad, shared a post on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) in praise of Pakistan and the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In Damoh city of Madhya Pradesh, cases have been filed against two individuals for making objectionable posts on social media. The posts allegedly hurt religious sentiments following the Pahalgam terror attack. Damoh City Police Superintendent (CSP) Abhishek Tiwari reported that the police were closely monitoring social media activities since the Pahalgam terrorist attack on Tuesday. During this surveillance, the Inspector in charge of the Kotwali station found two posts possibly disrupting communal harmony, resulting in the arrest of both accused.
