Violent chaos erupted in Bhupatinagar, East Midnapur district of West Bengal, when a National Investigation Agency (NIA) unit faced a vicious attack on Saturday morning. The officers, who had arrived to probe a blast scenario at a Trinamool Congress leader's residence that occurred in 2022, faced the fury of an incensed mob, inciting a barrage of stones on their vehicle, damaging the windshield and injuring an officer on board.

The assault transpired around 5:30 AM. An official complaint was lodged against the primary suspect, Monobroto Jana, and others unidentified, for orchestrating this heinous act. Furthermore, the NIA officials had arrested Monobroto Jana from the spot, braving the violent crowd.

An explosive incident that demolished a thatch-roofed dwelling in Bhupatinagar on the 3rd of December, 2022, saw the demise of three individuals. In the previous month, the central agency had summoned eight TMC leaders for interrogation in connection. They were instructed by the NIA to present themselves before the officers since they had failed to comply with previous summonses.

The NIA team had ventured to apprehend Monobroto Jana in connection with the case when they were ambushed by the mob.
