Eight opposition MPs who threw papers towards the presiding chair in the Lok Sabha have been suspended for the budget session, including seven Congress and one CPI(M) MP. After the suspension, uproar ensued in the house, leading the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings until Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, opposition parties are holding a demonstration in the Parliament complex with Rahul and Priyanka in protest against the suspension.
On Tuesday, during discussions on various issues in the Lok Sabha, opposition members suddenly caused a commotion and flung papers towards the Speaker's chair. Consequently, the Speaker initially adjourned the session until 3 PM.
Resolution Passed by Voice Vote
When the Lok Sabha reconvened at 3 PM for the fourth time, discussions resumed on disciplining the members who threw papers. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju proposed suspending the involved members for the rest of the session, a proposal that was passed by voice vote in the house.
Suspended Opposition MPs
Subsequently, the Speaker suspended Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Aujla, Raja Wading, Hibi Eden, Kiran Reddy, Prashant Podole, Venkat Raman, and Dean Kuriakoz for violating parliamentary rules for the remainder of the budget session. Despite the resolution's passage, opposition members continued to throw papers towards the chair.
The opposition alleges that they are being silenced on critical issues, while the ruling party described it as an insult to democracy. Following their exit from the house, these MPs began a protest in front of the Gandhi statue within the Parliament complex.
Furthermore, in protest against the suspension, opposition parties, along with Rahul and Priyanka, are demonstrating in the Parliament complex, condemning the government's actions as improper.
