During an interview, Anurag narrated that in 1998, he was casting for Ram Gopal Varma's film 'Satya.' Anurag was at a railway station when he first spotted Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

At that time, Nawazuddin was carrying someone else's suitcase, which belonged to Rajpal Yadav, a contemporary actor known for his comedic roles. Nawazuddin was helping Rajpal with his acting during that period.

Later, when Anurag and Nawazuddin met again, they decided to collaborate in Indian cinema. Anurag mentioned that Rajpal Yadav, who had come to Mumbai to become an actor, was on the verge of returning to his hometown.

"Rajpal was very depressed. Somebody had asked me to meet him and motivate him. That's when I met Nawazuddin. I told Rajpal that I was casting for the film 'Shool' and had come to offer him a role."

"I gave Rajpal a role as a porter. But Nawazuddin also didn't have money; he couldn't even afford a single meal. So when he demanded a role, I offered him the role of a waiter."
