With the election code of conduct in place for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Nanded police in Maharashtra conducted a significant operation. Intelligence had informed of illegal sales of swords, daggers, and knives in a shop in the city. The police then raided two shops and seized an arsenal of 36 swords, 85 daggers, and 8 knives. In this connection, Wazirabad police registered a case against two individuals.
As the election code of conduct was enforced in the district, Nanded police became vigilant to prevent unpleasant incidents during the elections. Meanwhile, intelligence about the illegal sale of swords and daggers in the city had surfaced.
Acting swiftly, the police raided the shops and recovered 36 swords, 85 daggers, and 8 knives. The inspector of police from Wazirabad, Raju Watane, along with his team carried out the raid in that area and also arrested Santosh Abarao Shirfule with the weapons.
He disclosed that he brought these swords and knives to be sold. During this time, another shop in the region was reported to be storing weapons. The police team raided this shop too and recovered 1 sword, 12 daggers, and 7 knives.
The police have filed a case against the accused at the Wazirabad police station and are conducting further investigations. With the model code of conduct in effect in the district, Superintendent of Police Shrikant Kokate has established checkpoints for vehicles leaving the city to prevent any untoward incidents.
